PLANE MAKING 26th and 27th September 2026 9:30am – 4:30pm £240 includes High carbon steel Hock Blade assembly and other materials Venue: Sylva Wood Centre, OX14 4QT During this two day course you will use hand and power tools to make a beautiful wooden hand plane. You will make the plane body and shape it to fit your hands. You will learn how to sharpen the Hock blade and adjust the wooden plane to take fine shavings. You will gain an understanding of plane geometry and function enabling you to change the design of the plane to suit your needs and make further tools after the course. Beatrix learnt plane making at the Krenov School of Fine Woodworking in California and brings her knowledge of Krenov style hand planes to this course. Making a tool and using it in your woodworking projects is extremely joyful and rewarding. Being able to tailor the plane to fit your hand size and grip is very useful and empowering. Instruction will be given in the safe use of all tools and machines. This course is suitable for beginners and intermediate woodworkers who want to make their own tools.
